What the ?!?..my crown level dropped!!
4 days ago my Spanish Crown level was 150 and now I've just noticed it's dropped today to 145. I thought one of the big ideas of the crown levels is that once you earnt them you had them and they didn't degrade. Any ideas what's going on?
Hi Hedwigechouette, thanks for the report!
Thank you for volunteering to alpha test our new Spanish tree a while back. Yesterday, we did a fix for our Spanish tree that's being alpha tested. A bug lead to some skills being "twins", meaning getting progress for one led to getting progress in another. Some of these skills include People, School, Shopping, Travel, and Family skills in that new tree. Learners that alpha tested this course may see a crown drop because the skills we incorrectly marked as completed before (due to completing its "twin") are no longer completed. We're sorry about this bug, but hopefully will be beneficial to learn the content in those skills that were incorrectly marked as completed before.
Unfortunately, the "People" skill in the non-alpha tested tree was erroneously affected as well. We have since fixed that and hope it is fixed for everyone now!
As I was earning my level back to V Crown it actually popped up and completed it all for me
Gracias for the notice, karint. This honestly made me a little worried! I got my crown back and I will now continue to get my skills to level 5 knowing that they indeed don't decay.
Found 3 crowns that got affected: Family 2 went from 2 crowns to 1 Family 3 went from 2 crowns to 1 House 3 went from 2 crowns to 1
No idea where the other 2 were lost. But anyway, time to soldier on...
Thank you so much for coming and explaining. Understand and very happy now. Yes! I don't want to miss any content so very happy to go back and get that under my belt. Thanks also for highlighting which skills were affected so it will make it much easier to find the content I've missed. Cheers :)
I didn't volunteer to alpha test. I got switched to Crowns and prevented from going back. Crowns suck and now when your FAQ said you will never lose a skill level (crown), it was a lie.
I guess that means some bubbles got additional content?
I had 3 crowns in "people", now went back to one, haven't touched it since the update so it can't be a rollback.. I guess they revamped "people" crowns level then?
I'll go try and report back.
PSA: DO TRY YOUR "PEOPLE" SKILL AND REPORT BACK!
It really seems that instead of looping the same excercises, now the more crowns you have the more content there is.
it seems there is no "new" content. it just finds other sentences where the words taught in the "people" bubble are present (ie. compañero, is in the "occupation" sentence "mi compañero es un buen ingeniero", so now this sentence turns up in the "people" bubble too once you reach 2 or 3 crowns)
I dunno what to think
I noticed this just now - this morning 179; tonight 177 ??? Totally not understanding what happened. :(
I thought I had 141 crowns.... so I didn’t misread 140.... I may need to abandon my golden tree goal if these things decay, because in no way can I keep up with that.
They did say that they were creating a new Spanish tree some time ago, and my other languages don’t seem to have decreased crowns.... hmmm.
There is a topic about this issue in another forum.
What I understand is that if new content is added to a certain skill, the crown level of that skill drops to level 1. Why ? Well because you have not yet practiced that new content.... That means you need to repeat all the other lessons within that skill as well, the ones that you already repeated over and over again.
This happened to me too, and I felt like I had to work so hard to get those little crowns. It was more than one week's work. I am so dissappointed that I lost my merit that was dutifully earned. It is a very strong demotivator.
Yes, it's also happening to me. The crown level just dropped overnight.
It would be nice if someone from Duolingo can react to this thread and explains what's going on.
My crown level is frozen, no matter what I do. Also, I reached level 25 two days ago ... no 25 lingots, no announcement that I could post on Facebook. I realize its all about learning another language, but still the lingots, the levels, the crowns, they should operate properly.
There was a good explanation from Karint in another thread, one of the Admins: Some topics, such as People, School, Shopping, Travel and Family were 'twinned', or crowns double counted, so many people lost 5 crowns.
Are you sure you're not looking at a different tab maybe? Have you tried refreshing the screen?
Had just taken the people skill up to Crown 2 and now has gone back to Crown 1 so that seems to be the difference. New content certainly needed to be added to that topic, it was very light on content compared to everything else I've done so far. So don't think it is 'decay' just highlighting that you have extra content to go through
Hi, this is the Spanish forum, for getting help with Spanish grammar, vocabulary, resources, etc. Could you please edit your original post and use the drop-down list at top left to change the topic from "Spanish" to "Troubleshooting"? That way it won't clutter up the Spanish forum, and the answers you get might help others who look in Troubleshooting for information on how Duolingo works.
