Crown levels: Losing all advanced sentences after reaching max crown level of a skill node

Hello everyone,

I have spent so much time and practice on the skill "Present Perfect" in the Italian course (learn Italian from English). After a week I finally reached the level 5/5. All in all, it required 108 repetitions!

After reaching that max level of the skill, the "practice" button of that skill returned. So now I can practice that skill again with or without timer.

The problem is: ALL the advanced sentences are gone! By clicking the "practice" button (and choosing "timed practice") ONLY the very easy sentences of the "Present Perfect" lesson are trained.

Reaching the crown level 5/5 required to train many advanced or new sentences. But I have lost access to them now that I have reached the max level.

I can only train the very easy sentences of the lesson "Present Perfect" that were there before Duolingo upgraded to the crown level system.

Can anyone help me? How can I train the harder sentences again after reaching max crown level?

The advanced sentences are not gone. The Practice button has all the sentences as it always did, but the sentences are given randomly. There is no control over which sentences will come up when.

I think more choice would be wonderful. Even some people might want easier sentences for longer before getting to the harder sentences. I wish there was a button throughout the course at which we could choose harder or easier as we wish. There could be five levels at least as that is what they set up. Even what type of exercises, listening to Spanish and writing them down, or translating from Spanish to English instead of English to Spanish.

If you get the tiles, you can push the "Use keyboard" button in the web version of Duolingo.

How many times did you use the practice button, as you may have to cycle through the various lessons? (Hopefully, the old systems lessons as that wouldn't be as many!)

I use timed practice. I have just finished 25 rounds of timed practice in a row. That was VERY exhaustive. And I only did that to check if eventually the new and harder sentences from crown level 4 and 5 would return.

But they didn't.

I don't know if something is wrong with my account or with the Italian language lesson or with the new system, or just with that particular skill in the Italian language tree or just with the web/browser version of Duolingo.

I only know that what I experience here on my account, with the timed practice on the skill "Present Perfect" in Italian after reaching the crown level 5/5 in that skill: The new and harder sentences are not in the timed practice of that skill node.

Then, I guess we can only hope that Duolingo works further on this. Try changing the Topic to Troubleshooting.

We can only hope... Any indication that it will happen? I don't notice any feedback to the many complaints from Duo except for a few Educators posting "I like the Crowns system."

Okay, I moved this topic to Troubleshooting, thank you for the advice :)

It is not a problem with you, in my case the english courso for portugues speaker also has the problem. I have gone to the 4th level of basics to check it out and I have to answer the same sentences from level 2. This new system has big problems.

That is worrying.

But apart from this: I think it isn't sensible to sink in so much time into a single lesson at once. Space your repetitions out and wait for Duolingo to add a test out option (which they are considering).

it's "losing" not "loosing"

I can't tell you how much I hate that particular spelling error. I know the difference and yet it happened. Thanks for pointing it out, have a lingot :)

how much was the difference for you between the sentences and words between crown levels L2 and L3 for this more advanced verb grammar skill?

For my EN-PT tree I was only put into L2, not a single L3 while the conversion with the "simple" rule happend.
But I have plans to work on crowns for 16 verb grammar skills.
Have I understood it right that ALL words had been taught on L1-L3 and L4+L5 just was varying content from more difficult sentences, longer sentences, different challenge types?

There have not been any new words on L3, L4 and L5 for you?

The old "Skill strenghten" (Practice) exercise sometimes showed NEW words....I wonder when this will happen with the crown system.....

If you want you can still practice your other non-golden skills which are not crown L5, even with the timer:

You can even practice skills you haven't learned at all yet. They're that easy. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

By accident I found your thread again :-)

Any news?

Have you reported the issue?

Any news?

The GLOBAL and skill "timed practice" got so much more difficult a view weeks ago.

It almost feels to me it is now locked to L5 (I reached L1-L3 on several skills incl. grammar / verb tense stuff).
Definitely not too easy...

Unfortunately I have not reached higher L4/L5 crowns in the more advanced grammar verb tense skills for my EN-PT Portuguese tree to be able to REALLY compare the situation right now.

I just know that I hardly pass more than ~5-8 timed questions with their current sentence difficulty level (free translation mode) and before it was like ~8-14 (sometimes more).
