"Those people now are waiting for their families" and "Those people are now waiting for their families" are also said in English. The placement of "now" depends on how much emphasis is placed on the time, which is not clear from the Czech statement.

"The people now wait for their families" is also correct and should be accepted

I put "The people wait for their families now". Not accepted. It should have been. The difference between are waiting and wait is put too much emphasis on. It might be big in Czech but it is not in English
