German Conversation (beginner to intermediate)
Hallo alle, wie geht's?
Almost..... Ich lerne seit einer Woche Deutsch.
In English, we say "I have done some for....." whereas in German it is phrased "I am doing something since". So in English we use the past tense and the preposition "for" - but in German we use the present tense and the preposition "seit".
Don't worry - many people confused with this.
It would be "Ich lerne Deutsch und es geht gut".
German does not have a progessive present tense. So "ich lerne" would mean both "i learn" and "i am learning". "ich bin lerne" would mean "I am am learning".
Also, "ist geht's gut" would translate as something like "it is is going well" - remember, no progressive present tense - so it would be "und es geht gut".
