What's the difference between using "Há" and "tem" in this sentence?

None, you can use both.

Using "tem" for "there" is only done in Brazil and not in the Portuguese of Europe, Africa and Asia. Even in Brazil "tem" is colloquial use.

'no' is both in and on. Why can it not be translated as 'Is there a spider in the sofa?'
