I'm back on Duolingo

Hi everyone,

I just got back on Irish Duolingo after maybe.. a year? Wow, things changed around here!

There are a few people I was following that still seem to be around and practicing Irish. Hi there! /~

I've been practicing Irish with a variety of online tools and fun books, and joined FB groups (one in particular for group translation of entire books), and suddenly felt the need to get a short daily kick again with basic things, so here I am!

Fáilte ar ais, a Tarjava!

Which books and online tools and groups have you found most helpful?

I liked a lot the Gaeilge gan Stró! book and audio bits on ranganna (bought the course with a rebate), as well as the active participation in the Irish Learner's Book Club on FB. Translating an actual book with other people has been very helpful with learning grammar, more than the dry and very technical Gramadach na Gaeilge :) Basic Irish by Stenson is also ok once I got over the generic bits and I had more vocabulary.

Translating on the FB group has been overall the best source of improvement.

Oh scilling, has there been an update to the Irish tree since last year? I remember there were discussions to add new lessons to it (and perhaps review existing ones). A tree 2.0 or something along those lines... I'm curious. I never finished the entire tree so I can't tell from memory!

No, the Irish tree has not been updated. In fact, it’s been nearly a year since the last status update was posted on the Irish course’s Incubator page.

The bell notifications have been broken since October 2017, so please forgive me if I miss any comments sent my way. (I have no desire to receive Duolingo notifications via e-mail.)

They take some getting used to! I read some of the feedback regarding the cups and the new system, I think the only thing I am a little sad to lose is the "refresh" clock... I liked that a lesson would lose its gold status, and one had to go and practice it specifically again to bring it back to gold. I am also happy that I can switch between typing full sentences instead of picking up words in a bank. I did not use the app because I found that part too easy.
