Please release Indonesian for English speakers into Beta.
Phase 1 shows 100% complete yet each day the estimated release date moves up to the next day. Please release it... We've been waiting for over 2 years and doing English for Indonesian speakers as an English speaker isn't cutting it. Thanks.....
Hi, a member of the Indonesian Incubator team here. Unfortunately the launch date was automatically generated and thus was not completely accurate. We try to regularly post updates on our Incubator page here, though.
At this point, the Incubator team has locked and submitted the tree but the process until it's being released to beta will take some time. The Esperanto from Portuguese course took two months, but the Klingon course took almost a year before it was actually launched. Fingers crossed our course won't take as long!
Thanks for the update and your hard work writing the course. It’s much appreciated. Speaking of the Kingon course makes me wonder why Duolingo puts resources into a fantasy language from Star Trek and not more time and energy into Indonesian, a language spoken by what, 250 million people. Just an observation. Once again we are thankful for your hard work.
just to add, if my understanding of the incubator system is correct, each duolingo courses actually depend on the commitment of the contributors, not duolingo. so it's our 'fault' (i'm the earliest and longest indonesian contributor). there were some problems, but all of us as supporters of the indonesian course must thank masyhur for continuing and coordinating the course to completion. :)
The last comment in the incubator says that the course is done and locked and is now in Duolingo’s court. Are they working on it? I can find no evidence online that they are. It would be nice if they (Duolingo) would give an update on their status as to it’s progress towards release into beta. You contributors have done an awesome job, now Duolingo needs to do their job and get this course into beta.
All of us (duolingo and indonesian team) are working on it. :)
For providing updates, we (the indonesian team) are the ones mainly responsible. I can explain a lot on this, but to answer your question immediately, the indonesian course is at stage alpha, with plans for (public) beta launch latest by/on indonesian independence day this year (17 august).
If you are interested, i can invite you to become an alpha tester. This way you can access the course early and provide suggestions for improvements. :)
I would love to an alpha tester. Yes please sign me up for that. I’ve been to Bali 4 times over the past 4 years and in total have spent more than a year there but my first few trips I really didn’t try to learn Indonesian. About a year ago I decided I really wanted to learn so I’ve been using Pimsleur’s Indonesian and Babble’s course too so I have some basic Bahasa Indonesia skills. I still have some trouble with understanding especially when it’s spoken at a normal for a native speaker’s speed which is really fast for me. Also since English is my native and only other language I still have trouble with word order in sentences. I’m retired and from California so I have plenty of time to study. I’m also returning to Bali in September for a two month visit. So please let me be one of the alpha testers. Thanks, Julie
Thank you for the update !!!
Will there be Indonesian audio in the course ?
I would be very delighted if the Bahasa Indonesia course is released. My children (and I) have been waiting for it. They want to learn Bahasa Indonesia.
continuing the discussion with julie above here as i can't see a reply option there...
to become an alpha tester, please apply at the incubator... (https://incubator.duolingo.com/)
as an aside, i and my wife are living in ubud, bali for four months this year (22 march 2018 - 22 august 2018)... :)
in the course of creating the duolingo indonesian curriculum 2 years ago, i and my wife looked exhaustively into every indonesian course known to google... we read books, tried apps, etc... have you looked into https://indonesianway.com/? :)
Yes I’ve looked at The Indonesian Way and I signed up for the basic membership but have not used it much. I’ll check it out again. Pennestanan Kaja Ubud is where I stay when I visit Bali. My dear friends manage Taman Rahasia Hotel and Spa and I usually stay there when in the Ubud area. I love that part of Bali and I also like visiting Amed. It’s a small world. I submitted a request to be an alpha tester in the link you sent. Thanks. Maybe someday we will meet in person.
Hi, Thanks a lot for the contribution and your hard work.
Can I apply as well as an alpha tester? I have been looking into this for a while. My girlfriend is from Jakarta and she helped a lot to kick start my learning, but need a proper course for steady progress.
It's incredible the lack of resources for a language with 250 million speakers!
