Are you a Spanish speaker looking for regular contact with a native English speaker?
My name is Edmund. I'm 29 years old and I'm from London. Let me tell you about my method for improving my Spanish.
Using sites like Duolingo and Babbel sure are great for learning new vocabulary and phrases.
But what should we do when we become more advanced learners?
I've found that the best thing to do (other than booking frequent lessons with qualified tutors) is to find a language exchange partner who enjoys debating the same topics as you do. (By using sites like Conversation Exchange or MyLanguageExchange )
Each week (as the Spanish learner) I pick an article about a topic which interests me, such as animal testing or drug use in sports. My language exchange partner does the same in English.
We then each write a short summary of the article we've read and give our own, personal opinions on the topic. We each publish these articles on Lingora https://www.elingora.com/ - a 100% free online community where native Spanish and English speakers are dedicated to correcting each other's work.
Afterwards, we arrange to have a Skype session where my Spanish-speaking language exchange partner spends 30 minutes debating his/her chosen topic with me in English and I do the same with him/her in Spanish.
Using this method has really helped me improve both my writing and speaking skills. I now have plenty of free time to practice with more Spanish speakers. So if you're a Spanish native speaker and you want to improve your English (and you're willing to help me improve my Spanish in return) please let me know.
Please edit your post and remove your email address, so that I don't have to delete the entire thing (we're not allowed to share personal info, including email addresses. More info on this at https://www.duolingo.com/guidelines)
Also, since you're looking for a native Spanish speaker learning English, you might consider posting this in the "Inglés desde Español" forum instead: https://www.duolingo.com/topic/217
Finally, I've had good luck locating language exchange partners on ConversationExchange: http://www.conversationexchange.com - you create an account and then search for practice partners. You can search by various criteria such as gender, age, nationality, hobbies. You can search for pen pals, audio chat partners, or video chat partners. You can use their internal messaging service if you don't want to give out your email address.
