But wait a minute I see that your level in Chinese is just 10!!!!

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Naveed78718

Actually I didn't use Duolingo to learn Chinese, I used it to test the Chinese I learnt more than five years ago. That's my level is just 10! Does it make any sense?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/GloriaGudalupe

Well I do not know if it makes sense because I am in level 20 and still struggling with it!

What is your main motif behind learning one of the most difficult languages? Also, can you briefly explain by struggling, what is actually difficult? Maybe I can give you some tips?

There are some billions of people that speak this language and now that in Israel there is a direct fly to Beijing for 600 US return ticket... many Chinese people are coming here and I want to be able to speak to them.... Now I really think that Chinese is grammatically childish... no tenses... no conjugation of verbs... only one possesive noun for all presons, until now there is no differences for plurals , to mention few things. Now the problem is the sounds and the diagrams. There are many sounds that are very similar and I do not understand how precise the Chinese people are with them. I suppose the context will tell them what I am trying to say. Duolingo has done something great... now I can point the mouse to a diagram during the sentence exercises and tells me the sound (but I can not see it written). In the diagram exercises, when you see it big and have to connected with the sound, when you got it right they do not give you the meaning with it! So there is something missing which gives me difficulty and I just have to work harder... but any tips are welcome!

Thanks for sharing your honest insight in detail :) . I guess there are surely some mistakes in few lessons that need to be corrected. And worse part, there are only handful of correct answers recognized, when there are many possible correct variants. But don't let this discourage you and stick to cramming these phrases.

Also, it is not teaching the written part that is a difficult thing even for the native Chinese speaker. I remember pretty well when my Chinese teacher skipped some of the strokes while writing my name.

I can only give you the tip that READ, LISTEN and SPEAK (if possible) more and more. You can try to read newspapers, listening to Chinese nursery rhymes (if it doesn't sound stupid) on YouTube and so forth. There are many more resources that are free available on the web. Maybe enrolling for HSK would boost your morale.

加油!

Don't understand. Does Duo have an independent Chinese test? Also, what is your Chinese name which is hard to write?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/WitlessBittern

You can test out of skills you already know, which progresses you but rewards no experience. It's an option on each tree.

What do you mean by independent Chinese test? My name is Naveed (it is a Persian word) that is transliterated in Chinese as 内维德 (Nei Wei De). The Chinese characters meanings does not have anything to do with my name's meaning. :)

I think you didn't read the previous conversation. Also if you notice, I am topping the leaderboard.

Yeah Chinese is your best language and you are level ten I have a hard time believing you are finished with it

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Naveed78718

It should not be hard to believe if you think my level was well above ZERO when I started this course. And as I mentioned, I used it to polish my skills that I gained almost half decade ago.
