What is the difference between these two words?

星期天 is more common in spoken language while 星期日 is more common in written language.

I was wondering because on one exercise Duolingo counted my 星期天 answer wrong and said the correct answer should be 星期日

interchangeable but Cantonese speakers would normally say 星期日 in verbal conversations.

It's like Samstag oder Sonnabend - mostly a matter of personal preference.

星期日 is the literal definition of Sunday whereas 星期天 is more informal.
