Hiragana Learning in Japanese Beta

I’ve been learning the Japanese course for six days and it’s going well, but I have one suggestion I think the Duolingo team could use to improve the course. When it asks you what each Hiragana sounds like, it also speaks it out loud, making it much less of a test. Instead I believe it would better if it lacked the sound and made it an actual test to learn what each of the symbols made.

You can mute the volume if you want. I want to work on pronunciation and would rather not lose the sound.

This is a problem. However, some people may not know how to pronounce the hiragana. My suggestion is that they teach the hiragana, then implement the microphone questions more, so people can learn how to pronounce the hiragana.

I partially agree with mc1492. There should be a mute button for people who want to mute the sounds, but the pronunciation would be useful to others.

If you want to learn hiraganas and/or katakana, I use tinycards, which allow you to view specific decks of words, learn them by heart, and there is no sound.

Hope it could help you.

Indeed, they should also add katakana

They do teach katakana too. Perhaps you have not gotten to it yet.

I just click on the non-hiragana tiles for when yo're matching them up. Other than that sometimes the pronunciation is right, especially if you've been doing a ton of the same practice and are just trying to get down the pronunciation instead of the symbol.
