What's wrong with "escuchar"?

creo que nada: "he tenido que escuchar a mi padre tocar la flauta durante anos" aceptado en marzo 2019

Isn't "oir" to hear, and "escuchar" to listen?

yo he tenido que escuchar a mi padre tocar la flauta durante años

Why is it "tocar" when the translation isn't "playing" or "to play"?

Why isn't eschuchar accepted in this sentence?

I agree with other comments saying 'escuchar' should be accepted in place or 'oir a' (no 'a' after escuchar as it means listen to). Will report this and I suggest others do too.

Why is : < He tenido que escuchar a mi padre tocar la flauta durante años. > not accepted ?

'Escuchar' is to listen with interest, 'oir' is to hear, which is to listen without intention, like unavoidable noise.

My translation ended incorrectly with use of the pop down tips: "...a mi padre tocando la flauta desde hace años" = playing the flute since years ago. 'por años' makes more sense, being for a duration of time.
