1000 day streak

Yay, I finally reached the 1000 day mark! That means I have been doing Duolingo while I was sick, while I was on vacations, on my wedding day etc. I have finished the Spanish and the French tree and recently I also finished the Portuguese tree.

However I will probably not make it much further than 1000 days. My baby is due in some weeks and I don't think I will manage to do Duolingo while in labor! I have been thinking about quitting anyway because I really really really don't like the crowns system. Using Duolingo hasn't been fun anymore since the crowns came. So, while celebrating my achievement, it might also be time to say goodbye. It was fun until this change and I would have never thought I could stick to something for such a long time. Thank you Duolingo, it's such a pity it all had to change. I will move to different challenges such as raising a bilingual child (Finnish and German).

Congrats. My record was about 196 days ,then I lost it. I killed my motivation a bit, but I'm back. I finished only the Russian tree and I'm halfway trough with Spanish.

The crown system is a little repetitive for now, but I think it's a foundation for a better Duolingo. If they change the lessons to get harder, with new and more challanging sentences the more crowns to go up it would be amazing.

To be honest I prefer this ,because the last system always felt like you never truely finish anything. After I finished the Russian tree all the lessons I had done fell down in level and I felt like I hadn't done anything.

Congrats on your child and good luck. Finnish is beautiful and German is a very valuable language to know in Europe, I am sorry to say I never managed to learn it.

Congratulations and good luck. Enjoy your baby and keep a diary of the child's early life. You think you will never forget each step along the way, each milestone reached, each stumble but one does. Raising a bilingual child is a hugely commendable goal. Best wishes.

You are like a pit bull. Good job. Maybe you could let the streak die, then still enjoy the review. I started DL over 3 years ago and didn't like the changes....but, I do now. DL seems to be in the midst of change and, really, so are you. Enjoy parenthood while you can. It goes VERY fast. I will leave you with my favorite Lingot. :)

Congrats outilein.

I can sympathise with your point of view as crowns didn't have that much of a positive effect on me either though I'll admit they may suit other kind of learners in different phases of their courses. It all became more of a "now I need to get some (if not all) gold back" thing rather than a true learning experience. More of a chore than a pleasure.

Still I don't complain much, I'm not a moaner so I take things as they come. I've managed to learn up to a decent level in German for free so in the end I'm very thankful to Duolingo for that. I won't go away yet but I also doubt I'll reach the same streak as you.

Good luck with your future endeavours.

Congratulations!! That's more than 3 years straight of using Duolingo, I commend you for your achievement. I also hate the new crown system, I used to use Duolingo a couple years ago and have recently made a new account to get back into Esperanto, but I could never hold a streak for more than a week or two. I have a weird lifestyle where I could do absolutely nothing for 4 days and then suddenly have 2 days where I don't have any spare time. Hence why I'd be able to hold it for a week or two and then I'd hit a day where I'm so busy it doesn't even cross my mind. I'm hoping to keep using Duolingo for at least the next few months, I need to get my Esperanto back to the level it once was.

Also, in terms of your labor, couldn't you just freeze your streak while that's happening? If you still want to keep your streak, there is that option.
