Suggestions for using the new Duolingo

I've been learning Dutch with the aim of getting fluent. I know there has been a whole heap of posts about the new Duolingo. I want to find a way of using it in a way that is as productive and enjoyable as before. At the moment all I'm using is the Practise button, because I don't know where to start in the new system. I went through the old Dutch course twice.

I want to stretch myself with new material, and revise the stuff that I wasn't completely competent at before. I just don't know how to do it under the new system without doing lot's (and lots!) of unhelpful repetition. Hence the fact that I'm using only the practise button.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

I don’t want to recommend you stop using Duolingo for Dutch but don’t forget to try other apps. Duolingo’s course doesn’t get you to becoming “fluent” so there’s still plenty to learn

Yeah, I'm not expecting Duolingo to get me fluent, but it was still something to master on the way to being getting there. Haven't seen any other online language learning that did it better than Duo (the old Duo).

If you miss the old system, check out https://www.duome.eu/feetunes/progress

I use it to see when the Gold has faded. I like to do some new lessons through Crowns or practice through this site since I can chose which lesson I want to practice (the old random exercise type practice) for a particular lesson. If you have gold that has faded you can repeat through Crowns which also raises your crown level or do the random practice through the dumbbells which brings you back up to gold, but does not raise your Crown level. The thing about crowns is that it is very repetitive, but it gradually goes from simplest type of exercises to more difficult type of exercises, so by level 5 you don't get the pictures to identify, you will have longer sentences. There will be more translate to Dutch as opposed to translate to English and more listen to Dutch and write it down instead of choosing tiles. All the purple skills have never yet been golden and you still have lessons to learn. The blue skills have been golden at least once. Crown level 1 is the same as making your skill golden for the first time.

Thanks. It helps to at least know that purple skills are all new stuff. I hadn't realised that.

I'm not going through endless repetitions of all the skills to get to more complicated sentences again though. I need those already. So I'll probably ignore everything but the purple and continue with the practise button, which seems to be giving me stuff that I do actually need to practise.

At first I had a few skills that didn't have any crowns. I went through those skills and changed them all to one crown. Then I did all the one's to change them to two's. Now I'm working on the two's, going down the tree like in good old days. This time though when I get to the end it's just back up to the top.

It seems that's the only way to do it Bill. Only thing is this seems to involve countless, and I would say mainly pointless, repetition of knowedge that is already well established. But anyway, beggars can't be chosers. I think Duolingo have shot themselves in the foot though, albeit that there might well be an improved system buried under all the floatsam.
