How do you get to the podcasts? I am new to this and started last week.

Super-Steve showed you the direct way to the podcasts, but you can also access them through the "Labs" tab at the top of the screen. When you open "Labs", you will find not only the podcasts, but also Duolingo stories and events, and any other projects that Duolingo might try out in the future (this is the purpose of "Labs").
