Achievements: I want my three stars!!
Hello, i am a first time 'poster', i'll be quite honest and say although i have been learning German for some time i do it quietly and alone at home when i have the time. But being the type of person i am i would like to have the 'achievement' of having invited three 'friends' on Duolingo. I believe they mean, people already studying a Duolingo course, but could someone please just simply tell me if it means getting people to actually study Duolingo courses from outside of those who already are, it would really help to know.
I guess, no-one wants to help and that's ok. Perhaps its such an easy thing to do that i should find-out 'how' for myself. Anyway, i can live without having this acheivement, because as many people think on Duolingo courses it seems; it is the learning and not the awards that really matter and so do i really. Also i guess i approached all this incorrectly from the start of my interaction. My real name is Robert and if you want to be a Duolingo friend of mine you are welcome to see about becoming one, just ask me and we'll see what happens, if anything, you know what i mean. Also how fast are the discussion replies usually, i waited 40 minutes and heard nothing, but perhaps that was to be half-expected.
It looks like following is starting to potentially happen for me . But i am a cautious person and i don't mean to be impolite, but i have to say when you click on the profile of the potential friend you see no information, is that usual? Is there a way of getting to know the person slightly through Duolingo first before accepting an invitation, other than just openly talking on these discussion pages.
I am about to follow my first Duolingo friend, as it occurred to me that only by following someone, you will get some access. And in this particular case, as the person said. 'No more contact' thereafter which indeed may be the case, but thank you anyway, for being the first one. I am signing-out for today, but will see if any more comments come my way later.
Ok, i am a little bit overwhelmed by the responses and friend requests i have had today, so there are good people out there, as i said it all helps me, but i can't promise much more. The advice has been well received. I don't know where this is going? as i said, so bear with. Finally i will discuss more at a later date, but i still have to do other things in my life like cook my dinner later. But here's an honest confession, i still don't exactly know how i have got to level 18 in my German course when i can't even say 'ich muss koche mein essen heute abend' correctly, i still have a lot to learn, please correct my grammer if you like as, every little helps, you know, i'll get it right with study and perhaps some help from those who know better than me. Its a journey isn't it?
As my sausages cook i realise that all you see on other people's profiles is just the same as my own. And i think that is good, as too much information sharing, if you don't want to do it, is a good thing to be the set-up for Duolingo. I hope i've understood this correctly? if not, please tell me, 'that' i just don't know enough about how Duolingo works, or i have just got my assumptions wrong? its ok to say i have. Good night, i'll be back later-on to see if anyone answered that question.
