what is the difference?

A mi hijo le gusta la cuna: my son likes the crib. What difference does it make if I do not use `A at the beginning? Thanks

to label a direct object when it refers to a person. You must use the “personal a” in front of the direct object if the direct object refers to any person or persons, or a loved animal .

This question has been asked before (and will probably be asked many times again, because of the inherent difficulty with verbs such as "gustar"). But you can find some great explanations here: http://www.studyspanish.com/lessons/gustar.htm and here: http://spanish.about.com/od/usingparticularverbs/a/gustar.htm
