1 Day Duo lingo Marathon

I have been using Duolingo for a while now and I have been experimenting with different languages. As of 8PM EST I will be doing a one day marathon that will last onto 8PM the next day. It will be in Mandarin Chinese. If people could suggest, I would like to see if their was a way to check how fluent I became by doing this for a day. Be my guest in checking periodically throughout the day! Wish Me Luck! - Eitan Update: Over the last 24 Hours I have been on Duolingo, making flashcards, trying to read Chinese Newspapers, Trying to stay awake, questioning why I would do this in the first place, studying, studying, and did I mention studying. I have found this experiment very very useful in my peruse of learning the Chinese language. Not only was I able to master words, I was able to put the words in sentences and be able to speak a conversation. I took an exam online before I did this experiment and it said that I had a poor understanding of Chinese. Now it says I am intermediate at it. I am now able to understand about 20% of the words in a newspaper, which is quite amazing. I am only Level 6, nearly 7 in Duolingo Chinese but I have gotten a lot done. I have done numerous practices and it helps strengthen my understanding of this language. Thank you Duolingo, now I am going to sleep!

Update: This is the last update til the end. I am tired and bored. I feel like I know too much about this language but I do want to finish this course. Probably over the next week at this rate. I would suggest not learning a language JUST with Duolingo use the App Hello Chinese to help with tones, I have found it helpful.

Since you'll probably see this after you wake up: I hope you had a good rest after all your hard work. I'm impressed by the huge amount of progress you've made in just 24 hours. Huge congratulations for making it through those 24 hours!

Just reached Level 5, think I will take a break soon and eat. But not to long. I feel like I have learned a lot so far. I look forward to the rest.

Update: Drinking tea and eating right now. I'm tired but excited to reach the end! I have made handwritten flash cards to help me and they help a lot. By the looks of it I can speak around 100 words so far. Duolingo is awesome but I would highly recommend flash cards as well. My next goal for today is to start working on characters a bit more. See you guys in a couple hours with a new update!

Eitan, Congratulations on making such a concentrated effort and for persisting. I am curious as to how the new knowledge will stick. If you can give us a report in a couple of weeks it would be helpful. I have been learning Chinese for about 7 years. I always tell people that my learning is like filling a leaky bucket. I need to make sure that the hose of new learning exceeds the leak rate. Best.

Good luck @EitanPritzker! You'll have a lot of fun.

For me, some of it sticks, some of it doesn't. I have to do a lot of timed-reviews to help get more practice.

Sounds cool! I'd love to do something like that since it looks fun and challenging at the same time. Perhaps I'll do it over the summer...

Update: Everything is going well. I have found it hard remembering the characters so I will be going back and working on them a little bit more. Not tired yet but I am sure I will be ridden with the urge to sleep soon.

Update: I have got the characters down pat. Working on tones, about to level up to level 3. Hoping to get to 25 as soon as possible. I could probably get in a basic conversation now. I assume everyone is going to bed in the US so goodnight to them. I will continue to update everyone else.
