Just something exciting I wanted to share with you guys! I was doing some shopping and heard two women talking in what I thought was Danish. I asked them in Norwegian whether they are Danish haha. And it turned out they were actually from Norway! They were surprised someone spoke their language here in Bulgaria :')

Nice! There was a 17. Mai parade near my area and I practiced some Norwegian with people.

Wow! That sounds so cool, I live close to a Danish village, so you never know when a bit of norsk may be useful lol. Also what’s 17. Mai parade? Is it a Norwegian festival or something?

  1. Mai is similar to 4th of July is to Americans. It's their independence/constitution day, and in Norway, they have giant parades and everyone misses school that day. I was lucky to find out that there was one held near me!

I was in norway for a decent amount of time but didn't manage to be there during 17 mai. I am no longer with my ex so I have no idea if/when I would ever go back, men jeg vil veldig gjerne være i norge i løpet av 17 mai.

17 mai er veldig kul. Alle har på seg bunad og drikker øl. Kjæresten min er også norsk, men jeg ville gå tilbake igjen uten henne.

Mainly Duolingo because it's more convenient. I also downloaded a textbook called På vei and I'm halfway through it. And I also try to immerse myrself in the language by watching movies or reading the news for example :)

I use Pimsleur when i am at work because it is entirely audio based so i can work AND learn norwegian. The problem with that though is if i don't understand something I cannot just pop onto a discussion to ask. The trade-offs.

Isn't it great... I had a similar experience in Italian last week at the grocery store. It sure gives a big boost to your confidence after getting that first time.

It will come with time, don't you worry :-)

Remember that Duolingo takes you only at beginner level, though. You need to support your learning with other resources. My secret tip no. 1 is a good grammar book :-)

They were probably from somewhere in the south (Vest/Aust Agder county) or Rogaland county. The dialects they speak there kinda sound like Danish
