Accents etc.

I understand the vowel accents and that they can change words ( he and the). Do the two dots over the u and the curved line over the n have names? Just curious.

  • ü (only in güe/güi) = "diéresis", like in "pingüino", "vergüenza", tells you that the u is pronounced. Cf: guerra, guitarra.

The curved line over the 'n' '~' it's said 'virgulilla' in Spanish or "tilde" in English.
