The "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" of Swahili.
At every sokoni I have been to in Dar, pilipili hoho are very hot chili peppers - milder peppers are just pilipili (even some mildly spicy ones are just pilipili). Can someone help clarify, thanks.
at least in Kenya, pilipili hoho is bell peppers. Chili peppers are just pilipili (also, sokoni = inside/at a soko)
Well, this has the potential to be confusing.
I kind of thought "hoho" was probably an onomatopoeic sound, like when you eat something that's really spicy and you go "hohoooooooo!"
:D no, Swahili onomatopoeic sounds are typically for conveying anger, congratulations, joy or shock/surprise
and motorcycles ;)
I think this is the correct origin - and in Tanzania my experience was that pilipili hoho refers to hot chilli peppers
Well I know understand why Pilipili FM is moto moto!
