If we're talking Snow white,
Spieglein, Spieglein an der Wand, wer ist die Schönste im ganzen Land?

not literal, obviously... Wand rhymes with Land

Yes, or did they "just" collect it?

I did a study on Snow White once. It was collected and published by the Grimm brothers and called Schneeweißchen, later it was published in low German as Sneewittchen.

did it have a happy ending? I'm still traumatised by the Little Mermaid...
EDIT: Oops, that was Hans Christian Andersen

depends on whose side you are. Snowwhite gets poisened a couple of times but in the end she got her prince charming. The evil stepmother won't have a happy ending.

npLam - Yes it does but most fairy tales in the earliest versions are too gruesome for children. Nicht wahr?
