13 XP per lesson?

I've been getting 10 XP per lesson since I started Duo, more than 2 years ago. It's how I kept track of how many lessons I did in a day. Now, suddenly and without explanation, I'm getting 13. Anybody know what's going on?

I got it today too - it really confused me (although I am not against getting more XP per lesson!)

Duolingo staff? Moderators? Anybody there who might want to tell us about this change or glitch?

I'm pretty sure they don't read the comments, or at best they just glance over them.

I just got 13 XP for a lesson even though I didn't for the 8 other lessons I did today.

Was there any difference in the difficulty of the lessons? Or which language it was?

I don't really remember any major difference in the difficulty of the lessons. The language was Spanish.

It happened to me as well, I completed a lesson and then it said I gained 13xp, I don't think it was an update because why 13xp, why not 15?

I know on the app they give a combo bonus of up to 5 XP. When I was using the lessons on my computer a few days ago, it only gave me 10. Maybe it is including a combo bonus of some kind now?

I felt the same way, until I realized that you only have to do it once. I do 8 lessons a day, and 8x13=104, so I just keep going until I hit 104.

This also just started happening to me, midway through the day -- I'm glad it's not just me! To check whether it was only for my account or something, I logged out and did the first lesson for Romanian only to find I got -- 14 XP?! I don't know what kind of sorcery or witchcraft this is, but I hope it stops very, very soon. I made myself stop at 10 lessons (130 XP) to keep a multiple of 10 since I really hate having an XP that doesn't end in 0.

If this is some sort of update, does anyone know what on earth the point would be of this? I wish there were some more communication from the Duo team.

I've noticed this today too. When completing lessons I get 13 XP, but when I test out of a level, I get a multiple of 10 XP, which seems like a glitch to me.

I received ten points per lesson this morning and did six lessons. Then after a few hours I started again at about 3pm Eastern Time and did a lesson and got only 9 points. Thereafter I got 13 points for all lessons, whether or not I got them all correct the first time.

Not sure why. I don't think it's a problem, unless you're keen on having a multiple of 10 for easy counting purposes. It is a little harder to divide by 13 in one's head than by 10.

I'm getting 13 as well. It doesn't seem to be a combo bonus and I've noticed that higher levels of skills are giving higher amounts of experience. Doing exercises at level 2 of 'basics' in my German course gave me 14 xp per completion. Same with 'basics' level 3.

Perhaps the three XP's above the ten are a result of a bonus, due to the individual meeting the personal goal that he or she set.

It may be because of the time it took, or the streak of correct questions.

I hope they announce what they are doing, because I don't really see the point.

However, some other things are looking a little glitchy on the site. It shows my streak as one less than it actually is in my discussion post, and on one of the days I practiced, it shows that I did less than I actually did.

The only reason I could see is that only granting 10xp per lesson burns people out and they never max their language out at level 25 and maybe they are hoping getting them there faster will keep people interested.

That is it for me with my XP I am receiving lately. Maybe there is a new XP scheme and it has something to to with the current level?

No idea, but I just realized the last two computer lessons I did on Spanish were not 10 XP each. The first two today (and all previous lessons I have ever done ever) were 10, and then I did some more and ended up at 46. Either I did two more (I don't count because if you're getting 10 XP a lesson you don't need to count) for 13 each, or I did three and two were the old number and the last was 6.

Is there any correlation with getting the "key" so you can test out of a level? That way if you plow through every lessons you get 13 * the number of lessons, and if you "key out", you get 10 * the number of lessons.

    https://www.duolingo.com/Chak278071

By the time I realized I should be testing out of all the lower levels, it was back down to 10 per lesson, but then they add 'bonus' points on, for no reason that's clear to me.

They were doing this for like three days about a month ago. It was actually about the time the key launched. Now I can get more then 10 XP per lesson, but only if I use the Android phone where I side-loaded DL 3.60. In that version you can go back to the initial lessons and re-do them, and if you re-do them with very few mistakes you get bonus points.

But my up-to-date iOS version, and the web version, require me to do crown lessons, or strengthening exercises that draw on words from all Spanish Subjunctive lessons, and those are 10 XP each.

I’ve been testing out since I reached level 25. At first the points for doing so ranged from 30 pts to test out from 1 to 2 to 150 pts to level 5. However! For about two weeks there have been great surges in the scoring. Yesterday I rec’d 300 pts going to a level 4 then 450 pts to level 5. Then this morning I rec’d TEN points testing out to a level 5 and at the bottom of the tree down by the golden owl. Believe me, the test outs down there are tough and you’re provided many opportunities to screw up working with compound sentences and complicated conjugations. 10 measly points! Whaddaya think is going on here?

To go up a crown level you have to do a certain amount of those crown level increase lessons. Testing out gives you all the XP you would have gotten for those lessons if you'd finished them. So if there's 45 lessons to Level 5, you get 450. If you did three already you only get 420. The number of lessons seems to be related to the number of words taught in a skill.

I've been doing test-outs for a month or two, generally three a day, to the point that my Romanian crown levels are maxed out and Swedish is close, and that has been how it always worked for me.

My guess is this particular skill only had a handful of words assigned, or you did a bunch of lessons after level 4, or both.
