Dissapointed "She uses a pencil to write." is not accepted. The one accepted translation 现在 completely ignores 用。Duolingo is far too often too strict in requiring more collequial translations instead of accepting equally valid literal word-for-word translations. I'm trying to learn Chinese as comprehensively as possible and to be able to deconstruct sentences character by character-- not just memorize a handful of cookie-cutter phrases!

For me, one native speaker, I can't tell where the problem exists......I do think the Chinese sentence and the English translation are quite correct......

Have you reported it? Yes, that sounds fine, but I disagree that it often requires colloquial translations. It more usually ignores them.

Strictly speaking, "she uses a pencil to write" should be accepted as it follows the words order.

I think "She writes using a pencil" should also be accepted.

"She uses a pencil to write" should also be accepted - this is a perfectly acceptable English sentence.

As usual, 他 and 她 should be accepted for audio, no way to report it.

So 写 or 写字 are both "write" ?

They are both 'write' right'
