etwas anders - something/somewhat differently

etwas anderes - something/somewhat different.

A nice little test to ensure you know the difference:

what's the difference between anders and unterschiedlich

Let's assume "sie" are a pair of kittens. If you say "sie sind unterschiedlich" it would mean the two are different from each other, maybe one is black and one is white, or one is lazy and the other one is adventurous. If you say "sie sind anders", the two are different from other kittens, maybe the rest of the litter are lazy white cats, while these two are telepathic time travellers from ancient Egypt.

Thank you! This is the intuitive feeling that I got from these two words, but never really had anyone explain it, finally ist alles in Ordnung ^^

OK, I'm trying but it feels wrong:

Die zwei Kätzchen sind anders als diese Katze.

Unsere Kätzchen sind unterschiedlich, deine ist andere als meine?

Why not "They are different"?

That's correct, too.

We often say "You are something else." to express the same concept. I added this as a suggestion.
