GDPR compliance

Hi all,

In the UK, we have to know where the data is stored in order to comply with the GDPR regulations (detailed, Europe-wide regulations to protect data - https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/guide-to-the-general-data-protection-regulation-gdpr/). Is there certification or documentation anywhere to explain Duolingo's GDPR compliance? Does anyone know where the data servers are?

I want to set my school up on here - it's a great tool - but can't if it's not GDPR compliant.

Hi Dan, Duolingo data is stored in the USA, in adherence with the EU-US Privacy Shield for GDPR compliance. You can find out more about this at https://www.duolingo.com/privacy and https://ec.europa.eu/info/law/law-topic/data-protection/data-transfers-outside-eu/eu-us-privacy-shield_en.

Cheers, Carl
