Dusts off this thread... I was recently reminded of this song and this is exactly the bit I was wondering about - how do you specifically refer to the starboard bow - I'm assuming it's some combination of {'et} and {nIH}. But this song seems to have two senses of the phrase:
1) the Klingons are off in space within the 45 degrees to the front-right of the ship.
2) the Klingons are physically on the bow and need to be scraped-off, Jim. (now do that in three syllables).

I'm so glad someone else remembered that song.

I think starboard bow specifically means the right front of the ship. The klingon sentence makes no mention of whether it is the right front, middle, or rear so it should just be starboard without bow added on. Disclaimer: I don't sail and was never in the Navy. Also was only a pirate in my dreams.

I was quoting the song which inspired this sentence.

I put, "There are klingons on the starboard side of our ship!".

This quote was inspired by a song that says "starboard bow", but the Klingon makes no mention of the bow, so now I've also added "starboard side" now.

I also put, "There are klingons to starboard!"

I'm going to say that the word "ship" is an important part of the translation.

Of course it was. Thanks.
