I would like to express my opinion that the new tree is worse! I like the way Duolingo is teaching grammar and vocabulary in the same time, but this one focuses on teaching vocabulary first, then grammar. For some, it might be more important to know a lot of words, but for others like me like to have a good understanding of the grammar of the language first. Please revert this update!

I don't really have a problem with the new tree and the vocab being added. I do like the grammar included in the tree as you go along, but I've been on here for a long time, I'm at a 1697 day streak and I've completed the tree at least 12 times and have kept everything Gold. It was starting to get boring doing the same stuff over and over again. I will tell you that as far as the grammar duo-lingo won't do it by itself, you will need to go to other sources to work on the grammar. I use books that concentrate on Grammar as well as other things. Duo is good for helping you keep what you have learned and not lose it, while now it will give you an opportunity to learn new vocabulary. My big grip or complaint that I now have with Duo-Lingo is the little health bar on the moble app. I use my IPhone and the you only get 5 errors and then it wont let you continue to learn. it locks you out for 24 hours. (I know that you can go do the practice lessons to get health back but I do everything continually all day. Also my big problem with the 5 mistakes is that the buttons on my i Phone are small and my fingers are big and i sometimes hit two keys and that causes and error. Five errors like that and I'm done.I use my iPhone during the day when on the road and then repeat it all in the evening on my computer when I get home. I wish or possibly request that Duo Lingo do away with that stupid health meter as it does not encourage studying or learning, but makes me want to just give up on Duolingo and go to all other sources, but frankly the overall the layout they have is the best that I have found in almost 1700 days. If a moderator is reading this entry as well I hope that you will consider doing away with that feature. remember if one person doesn't like something and goes to the trouble to write and complain about it then there are 1000 more that feel that way but don't write you to let you know. I am overall happy with the new tree and happy with Duo-Lingo.

I am really disheartened. Have taken ages to get to level 25 and it was mentioned as an afterthought & I don't appreciate going from 177 crowns to 143. Not encouraging.

The purple skill means it hasn't been completed a first time (you are at "0 crowns") and the key is a test-out feature. You can click on the key and take a test to see if you know everything for that set of 2-10 lessons. You only get three wrong answers, while on the fourth wrong answer you fail the test, so you really have to know the material in that unit to pass it. You can do this for every level of the unit up to the maximum of 5 crowns if you already know that material. This comes in handy for the very basics that you would otherwise have to complete 15, 20, 30 or in some cases even 50 lessons.
