Can someone tell me if Ralph and Rafael are equivalents and do we not translate names?

I know Raphael as Rafael. It is better to continue using the name in the original form...

But not fair. I spelled it the English way (since we were supposed to be translating into English!) and was marked wrong. I'm reporting that.

Although in the past it was quite common to 'translate' names, it is very rarely done these days. Rafael wouldn't start spelling his name Raphael if he moved to an English-speaking country.
