But yes, it is a bad example in English, as 'good evening' is a greeting and not a question.
I believe 'habari za ...' is equivalent to asking 'how is ....', like ''how is your evening going?'
that would be more of a parting remark because you're wishing them a good evening. I think the 'good evening' here is meant as a greeting
