New Plus popup window and redirect to is so annoying!

Hi all,

a new web / forum code rollout was done by staff on Wednesday, 11 July 2018.

It happened today the first time when I got an e-mail thread subscription (new comment).

I clicked on the link in the inbox (e-mail program) and it should have directly opened the forum thread and comment id in a new browser tab as it usually does.

What is Duolingo now doing since today?

You won't get to the forum thread but instead the forum URL link is replaced with

Once I click on "No thanks" in the "Plus purchase popup" I will be redirected to the home (tree) page.

I was not redirected to the original forum comment I had clicked on before in the e-mail inbox!
The original forum URL was completely purged!

Do have to double / triple open forum URLs from now on?

@Duolingo staff in the US HQ

I can tell you that THIS is really quite annoying!!

I am fine both with dynamic "Plus blend-ins" at the end of a lesson or to the right with the "Ads/Purchase Plus" panel.

But I really want to directly read forum comments without any (corrupted) disturbing redirects!!!

I am not buying "Duolingo Plus" just because I now get your popup!

Technical details: - Firefox V52.9.0esr, 32-bit

With best regards

It's still taking me directly to the forums, Thomas. I just tried a few of those emails from this morning, so I'm wondering if that was an anomaly.

So ist das halt.
Jetzt habe ich wieder die Zonkkarte gezogen.

Seit Threaderöffnung ist es "natürlich" seither nicht mehr aufgetreten.
Muß man vielleicht mal die nächsten 7-14 Tage beobachten....

July 12, 2018

Was ist "Zonkkarte" auf Englisch? Es ist nicht in meinem Wörterbuch.

July 13, 2018

AFAIK it's a loanword from US game show slang and subsequently subjected to linguistic agglutination. :-)

By the way Thomas, it is Duolingo (with a small L) and not DuoLingo

Why your topic is not set to Troubleshooting?

July 11, 2018

If new redirect functionality (see the URL in the topic) by staff breaks by intent old behaviour, it is IMHO not really worth to put it into Troubleshooting?!

If the subject line was a bit longer, I could have added [CHANGE-REQUEST] so it fits better the normal DuoLingo sub-forum :-)

July 11, 2018

Yes. I think we should first not assume anything we don't know for sure. Troubleshooting is great choice for now.

July 11, 2018

I had something similar happen when a post was deleted before I clicked the link in the email.

July 13, 2018

However, when I got redirected the particular thread/comment was not deleted.

When I clicked on the direct URL link in my e-mail inbox folder the thread was finally successfully loaded.
