Lingots: a guide
So you want some lingots, do ya? Don't beg; it'll get ya banned from the forums. "So how do I get extra lingots fast then?" you might ask. Well, I'll tell ya.
Participate in the forums. Don't post a bunch of crap like 'I like pie!' but actually participate. Looking for folks needing help and trying to help them is a good way to get lingots, as people will reward good and helpful answers with lingots.
Ask questions. Don't ask irrelevant things like, 'What's your favorite color?' Do ask grammar questions, spelling questions, anything actually related to languages. Good questions also get rewarded with lingots.
Those of us that have been around a while have a ton of lingots and nothing to spend them on, but we usually won't give them to people who spam the forums acting like annoying beggars.
Contribute. It's worth it.
I don't know why anyone would actually want a lot of lingots though. They don't really buy you anything useful except extra lessons (of which there are only two), and streak freezes. And streak freezes are only useful for getting streaks so that you can earn more lingots.
Have a hundred. I still seem to have more than 800,000 which I’ve collected in a few days and I don’t know how. But it is a lot of owl outfits.
Its really a sucker play to care about Lingots. They are of no value whatsoever but tech people put these little dopamine hits into their programs and most people have no idea why they care about them or how to explain them they just do. Its very similar to streaks. Theyre completely worthless. It shows what Duolingo thinks of their customers. All sheeps.
It would be nice to have some new additional features where current users could spend their lingots. Personally I have 850 lingots and nowhere to spend them - all idiom, flirting lessons and additional outfits are already bought.
Well yes it's not that much but again It's definitely enough to buy everything in the store
Oh yes, definitely enough to buy everything in the store. (I think some inflation is in order; maybe double the prices for everything.)
Lingots do not make much sense. I have quite a lot and nothing to spend them on. It would be nice even if they would add some interesting or even weird lessons to add with them (false fiends?, foods in hamburg, stuff like that).
By the way, I would love to be gifted with enough ingots to unlock a new category in the shop, but I am not asking for it. Please do not think less of me.
I don't recall how many lingots a new category cost but I figured this should be enough...
Awesome advice. Hopefully, Duo will come up with more things for us to spend the lingots on. As it stands, lingots don't mean much of anything once you've already bought the very few things that are available in the shop. Honestly, I only use my lingots for the weekly wager. And I only do that because...why not?
Same here. I'm up to 6502. I'm hoping something worthwhile will come along and I can go on a spending spree!
Actually, an easier (well, I think it's easier) way to get lingots is just to keep on doing Duolingo. Every ten days of a streak you get, you get the amount of your streak divided by ten. So in two days, when I get a 660 day streak, I'll get 66 lingots. Of course, this also requires dedication, but it's helpful to use those lingots you get from your streak to buy a streak freeze.
This doesn't work on Android. I don't know about iOS. It's definitely on the PC.
On Android, however, each day after completing the goal (no matter whether the goal is completed on the app or PC), there are three treasure chests to choose from. They contain anywhere from one to five lingots.
Oh, it doesn't? I thought it did.
Hm, interesting. So that's another way to get lingots.
I want to dress my poor naked owl. How do you do that? I don’t see the option at my shop. I use IOS.
Thank you that is really sweet. But I am not sure owl dressing is an option for me... it seems to not show up in my shop.
That’s really odd. You’re doing French I think? I’m doing French and it is definitely there in my iOS app. But I can’t find it on the web based browser version. Only the app. Are you accessing through the app or via safari/chrome?
Yes I am doing French primarily — on the app that is not a power up option. Maybe I would need to be a plus member?
Odd. I think it was there before I went to Plus but I can’t be sure. What a pity. The owl looks good in a suit.
I'm not a plus member but I did notice just now that the outfits only show up in my shop when I'm on my Japanese lessons but the shop doesn't have them when I work on my French lessons...? Strange.
Thanks for the tip Pauline. I will try my other languages and see if that works. UPDATE: nope — tried Czech, Russian, & Spanish and still have a naked owl.
