How would I say 'the man from Qarth went to Ghis'?

As far as I can tell, this is a perfectly acceptable translation for that. I reported it (since I gave that exact answer myself).

Though to avoid ambiguity I'd probably say "The man from Qarth went to Ghis" as "Hen Qarthī vala (va) Ghīhot istas"

the man went to ghis from qarth----how is this wrong again?

Most likely they want you to preserve the original word order as much as possible.

Because the man went in the opposite direction, both times.
