Completed my Hindi tree!
I turned the Hindi tree all gold just a while ago and oh boy, what a journey it has been since yesterday! Thanks to the level up feature introduced recently by Duo, I did not have to go through all the lessons individually.
I was somewhat familiar with this language although I had never studied this language in a formal setting and I am not from India either. However, I wanted to see how much I knew of the nuances of its grammar. During these hours of practice, I did learn quite a bit about the subject gender conjugations. I think that is a tricky aspect of this language.
The course has been designed well, I must say. Congratulations to the course designers! You have done a great job- it must be a really daunting task to design a whole course like this.
At places where I felt things were not okay, I have reported the issue and I am hopeful that they will make corrections accordingly to bring a more polished version of the tree once it graduates from its beta version. In particular, I really hope they will add tips and notes to all sections as they have already done to Basic 1 level.
In particular, I am also looking at distinctions between the second person pronouns that are used to denote hierarchy. For example: The pronoun “You” can be written as तूम, तू or आप in Hindi depending on who you are talking to. The learners would want to know the distinction between these three levels so they won’t end up calling a senior gentleman/or a lady/ or their Indian friend’s mother/father तू the next time they go to India.
I wish all the learners the very best of luck and I have a feeling that once someone completes this course they will have a fairly good grasp of the language for day-to-day conversations!
Hey there! Congratulations on your achievement. It feels really good to know someone having such keen interest in learning Hindi. Good job!!! Here's a lingot for you! Greetings from India :) आपको हार्दिक शुभकामनाये..
Is the golden owl at the bottom yet? I checked the owl sprite and the Klingon and Hindi owls don't seem to be there yet. Congratulations, by the way:)
Thanks @Seneee! I wanted to taste it fresh off the oven. Hehe.. I must say- it did taste quite well!
Wow, REALLY good job. How far did you get on the placement test if you did it? Also, how many hours did it take you?
Thank you @Adam711804. I failed the placement test :P and then I did not bother going back to it by deleting the language from my profile and reinstalling it. It took me about 8 hours in total.
Congratulations! Hey, you can't go wrong with the 4th most spoken language in the world! Well done!
तूम, तू, and आप aren't the only pronouns out there! There are others based on what dialect you speak, but they usually have the same stem of either 't' or 'a' to differentiate between informal and formal. If you just understand that तू is informal and आप is formal, you'll probably understand what others are saying and others will probably understand what you're saying :-) Congratulations on your quick journey throughout the tree!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us and thanks for the kind words.
Well . . . you just click the link there and it'll bring you to the Hindi leaderboard, and it's easy to see because you were at the top. Now you're in second by 2 XP.
Thank you Jonathan. I will stop with the exercises now. I've completed the tree and getting to level 25 looks like a lot of work from there :D So, it's back to my other language now.
Congratulations! I just joined you today in the course completion. Along with everyone else, I've been wishing for this course for so long. While I hope they continue to develop it, it's been a great start. Thanks Duolingo!
