I get questions that I don't know the answer to!

Ever since the new update, I get questions that have words that I haven't learned, or grammar topics that are completely new and aren't explained. It always happens on the select 3 questions, where you can't hover over the word to see what it means. This is bad for a complete beginner. It can get really confusing. Should I just report the questions when I see them? This is happening in the Spanish course, but I think it might affect all of them. If I remember correctly, it also affects Esperanto.

Edit: I've also been noticing that even at the first few lessons, everything is a lot more advanced, but less is explained. It's really confusing.

Edit 2: I've also just noticed that "practice" includes words that I haven't seen at all. The latest update makes stuff really confusing for someone who just wants to learn!

When that happens to me, I just pick one of the three and wait for Duo to tell me what the correct answer is. Later on, when I get the question again, I know what to select.

That's easy enough, but it's still an inconvenience. It never used to be a problem. And I just tried "practice" mode, and it puts words I haven't come across at all!

This is a hack solution, but it remains a problem.

I would strongly prefer that they address the problem. This sort of stuff isn't hard to fix on the programming end if you program your app competently.

I've noticed this too and I dislike it.

It's one of many ways in which I think the experience of using Duolingo has become less positive lately (lately as in, over the past year or so). There are a lot of minor problems like this and I think they can be pretty jarring when you add up all the little things.

I up-voted.

Which skills?

I would have to call this "Fail by design" (there have been many complains in 2017 and 2018!):

Staff / Developers (for the web portal) and mobile app programmers clearly missed to exclude several NEW "exercise challenges" (some new have even been added in 2018!) from the initial learning (L0 lesson) mode.

IMHO those exercise challenge (e.g fill in the blank, choose from 3 available options) you get are meant for REVIEW.

Don't ask me why they include those question types in learning mode, instead of reserving them exclusively for reviews (practice mode or L1-L5 crown levels).

However, this is not really a failure of the "crown update" in April 2018 and later.

The problems with these new challenges have definitely been introduced even before.

I can't remember the exact Troubleshooting threads (ids) where we have already discussed this in more detail.

The best would be to send a bug report to the developers with screenshots, showing those words and a link to this thread.
