If I entered "vōljī", which is listed as another possibility in the drop-down list, why does it say I have a typo? Is "vōlī" more correct than "vōljī"?

Apparently! According to the wiki,
The palatal resonants, ñ and lj, have a particularly limited distribution... they depalatalize before i, or any consonant except for j. When this happens, lj [ʎ] becomes l [l].
