If you're interested in pop music, listen to Stromae or Maitre Gims. Some of my favorite French songs are by those artists (Papaoutai by Stromae and Est-ce que tu m'aimes ? by Maitre Gims). If you prefer older and more classical songs, try Edith Piaf. Can't go wrong with La Vie en Rose !

I love a ton of songs by Stromae, like ave cesaria, carmen, avf, ta fete, and tous les memes. All of these songs helped motivate me to learn French. I go on Geniuslyrics and turn on the song on Spotify and repeat it as it's being sung. This actually helped me master the pronunciation when I was learning French!

New songs: Ma vie dans la tienne - Lara Fabian and Casablanca - Saad Lamjarred (he is arabic, but the song is starting to become a hit, with lots of views on Youtube in a short time). By the way, are you Croatian or just a supporter? Hope you enjoy these songs.

Maybe obvious, but the French Les Mis soundtrack is good, too. This one has a special place in my heart because it's the first song I fully understood. I remember listening to it the day I started French and then again 100 days later. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zE6Ct4WBRow&index=22&list=PLE4A332CE9F807D86&t=0s

Not to imitate, but I had a good laugh. I didn't understand a word https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsDOTv2DMfE

Unfortunately, I'm not really into modern pop, so I don't know any of those songs.

omggg you HAVE to listen to Still Fresh. His songs are amazing, it's like rap but it's not as fast as American rap. In my opinion, his music is one of the best I've ever heard

I like -M- (Matthieu Chedid) very much. He is stylistically something like David Bowie, and I think out of all his songs he sings one in English. Music is the chief reason I wanted to learn french. I wondered what Stereolab were singing about in their French songs, and as I get more into the academic/classical music of our time, I am finding much of the texts and titles are in French.

If you like Stromae, you might like Bigflo et Oli, or Orelsan - both are sort of melodic rappers. For more pop you could try Louane, Soprano, Therapie Taxi or Vianney. Maitre Gims has been mentioned. I also like Dadju & Marwa Loud. And currently have Aya Nakamura's Djadja looping in my head all day! You'll find all these on Youtube

Here are some of the best I have found (on my own or through French friends) so far.

Zaz - Her music is really beautiful and sweet, with a lot of nice lyrics, she is my absolute favourite right now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZDsCJ4rGD4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TFNGRYMz1U

Alice et moi - Only just found, very interesting and cool https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGr0-pQX6JU

Ez3kiel - This was recommended to me by my French friends, no lyrics but some crazy emotive and political electronic music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWJHK-joEa8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dpZh0onkJU

Damian Saez - another friend recommendation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqaiH8iBZ5g

Hope you enjoy :)
