I wrote just that and it wasn't accepted. I wonder if it could be accepted (and if it's grammatically correct) and if there is a certain word order in Mandarin Chinese. Need to google it when I have some free time.

... though no one in the UK would ever say this. Possibly the 'north of the UK' or more likely 'in Scotland'
'in the north of the UK' would be a lot better. you can be 'on the north side' of a mountain, or a building, but not of a country.
