What's the difference between un and una in Spanish.

Hola,

So I've been wondering what's the difference between un and una. Don't they both mean a in Spanish.

"Un" is used with masculine nouns: "un gato", "un árbol". "Una" is used with feminine nouns: "una gata", "una planta".

as you said Un and Una means "a" or "an" but Un is for male like Yo soy un nino. I am a boy. Una is for female like Yo soy una nina. I am a girl.

Personally I dislike the use of niño and niña for noun genders because they create the illusion that noun genders are related to sex, which is false.

It are noun genders and male/female are just labels for two noun categories. The fact that some nouns have male and female versions for both the male and female sex respectively make the confusion worse.
