Why do I keep losing streaks when I am on every day?
I have done my lessons every single day since starting Duolingo last month. Twice (that I have noticed) I have been notified that I missed a day (I lost my streak wager and today was told that I had used my streak freeze). I normally do my lessons at around 9:30 AM on work days, but today I was busy and couldn't get on until 11. Am I supposed to be doing this at the same time everyday? I was under the impression that the day counted as 00:00-23:59. Please correct me if I am wrong. And, yes, I know this is a learning app and is not a competitive thing, but some people (like myself) get very frustrated when things don't work the way they are supposed to.
You are correct that the day should count from midnight to midnight. You can double check this on the website (not the mobile website), which tells you how many hours you have left. Travel through timezones can mess this up, but it doesn't sound like that's your issue.
Do you do most/all of your lessons on the app? Synchronisation of the app with the servers is a known problem, especially if the app happens to not be online when you finish a lesson. If doing Duolingo on a PC is not an option, even the mobile webpage works better. In any case, always check on the webpage whether you've met your daily goal, not in the app.
Also, just in case you're not aware of this (it happens), a day only counts towards your streak if you met your daily goal. Doing less than that doesn't count.
Who knows? But I didn't think of that. I do tend to switch, using a PC or the app depending on where I am. If I do part on one and part on the other, I do feel like I've done more than other days. I actually bumped up my goal because the lessons go by so quickly. It is fun. Thanks for in insight.
