Gave a wedding toast in Swedish
I accomplished what I set out to do, which was to give a nice long toast in front of 80 Swedes at a friend's wedding in Kalmar. I really liked Sweden and will go back. Next task will be to read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in Swedish. I'll review Duolingo in a few months.
Nice. After finding relatives in Sweden 20 years ago on ancestry.com, I finally got to meet them in 2010. I remarried on a cousin's boat in Ulvöhamn. My cousin's daughter helped me write our vows in Swedish..."Jag kan inte lova dig stärnorna och månen men en själ att gå bredvid dig. Och om du vill bli min fru det är då stärnorna och månen kommer att följa oss alla vårt liv."
That's amazing! Good job! =D
Thanks for all the warm comments. The learning Swedish community is small but sweet.
For those starting out, Duolingo seems to emphasize translating and writing more than speaking. I made a point of repeating each sentence as it was uttered. It would be better if there were more speakers and more opportunity to develop the unique and pleasing cadence of speech that I heard in Stockholm. I tried to get this by watching The Seventh Seal four times but it didn't work. Turned out I liked Death's speech pattern the best; maybe not the choice for a wedding toast but I am a little jealous.
So cool! Congrats! I have just started and Iam in love with this language!
