I wrote a script to show the words button for all languages
A couple of days ago i tried to find a script to view the words page for all languages and only found that workaround with the second tab and the discussion page. But i think that can become quite annoying after a while so i wrote a script for this.
You can get it here: https://github.com/MiriamOe/DuoWords
The README contains info on how to get it running.
If you have any questions, feedback or suggestions on what to implement next, i'd love to hear it!
I hope i could help :)
I like it, here is a list of things that should come in future updates if you continue this project.
language specific word tabs, so the gender section could be replaced with counter words for languages like japanese, chinese, and korean.
list of all the conjugations. Conjugations and declensions
audio for words, there are a bunch of free audio sources around
If you shoot me a free site that teaches coding, I would be more than willing to help with this project.
Language specific word tabs sounds great! my "main language" on here is Swedish and None of the words have gender or part of speech assigned to them so that's 2 empty fields and it bothered me too. so greeeat idea!
the list of conjugations etc sounds super helpful. the problem is that this isn't part of the vocab list so idk where i would get that information from (unless i do all the Courses and write lists on my own hahah :D). i could use external Sources i guess, but that would be different from language to language. Do you have any other ideas? Maybe that should become an individual script, gonna see ;)
audio is great, where can i find Sources?
And sorry, what exactly do you mean by "if you shoot me a free site that teaches coding"? I'm not a native speaker and this sounds quite new to me :D
Thank you a lot for the feedback!
I remember looking for sites that provided audio, but I can't remember the name of them since it's been about a year.
The expression 'shoot me "something"' is used when requesting for a link or other data online. So what I was asking was if you know any free sites that can teach coding, send them my way so I can learn and maybe help in the future.
Aah okay, got it! Basically like "give me / tell me" right? I don't know any sites right now but i do think there are some so i can look them up. Can i contact you somewhere else so we don't write thousands of comments here? :)
I love this so much! It's really helpful - only feedback I have is that I was wondering if there's any possible way to filter the list by skill (e.g. just see all the words from the Health skill, or something) Thank you so much for making it!
I'm planning to implement that! I agree that this would be very helpful. Thank you so much for the positive feedback :)
Something is broken with your gibhub.com repository.
When I click the "RAW" button to install the JS file V1.5 within the Tampermonkey browser addon (Firefox V52.9.0esr), this URL is shown: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/MiriamOe/DuoWords/master/DuoWordsScript.js
It will just display the code as a plain text file, not ask for an registered Tampermonkey JS auto-install.
Same is true for this URL: https://github.com/MiriamOe/DuoWords/raw/master/DuoWordsScript.js
Is this now a problem because of the Firefox V52.9.0esr and github's "not supported" message???
See Camilo's https://github.com/camiloaa/duolingotreeenhancer respository and RAW install location of his "Duolingo Tree Enhancer" user script: https://github.com/camiloaa/duolingotreeenhancer/raw/master/DuolingoTreeEnhancer.user.js
See Cooljingle's https://github.com/cooljingle/memrise-all-typing repository and RAW install location of his "Memrise All typing" user script: https://github.com/cooljingle/memrise-all-typing/raw/master/Memrise_All_Typing.user.js
These will correctly initiate a Tampermonkey popup window and ask for an auto-installation (by showing the typical user script preview panel).
Do you need to upload your code as blob or something??
Funny thing is, I could successfully install a previous version within Tampermonkey just fine which has now auto-updated to V1.5.
Thank you very much for pointing out the problem! I just had a look at the scripts you sent me and i didn't see a difference on first glance, so here's a temporary solution:
- If Tampermonkey didn't open automatically after clicking on "raw", copy the URL (or just get it here: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/MiriamOe/DuoWords/master/DuoWordsScript.js)
- Open Tampermonkey (most browsers will have the Icon in the top right corner, if not you will probably find it in the menu)
- In Tampermonkey, you will find different tabs, one of them being "Utilities". Open it.
- on the bottom of this page, you can paste the URL into the textfield and click "import". Tampermonkey might ask you to confirm the installation of the script.
Now the script is installed and should (hopefully) work normally.
I've noticed that the problem doesn't only occur in Firefox, so it's probably something with the metadata block in the script. I will have a closer look whenever i have a little more time :)
So first of all! great idea and good job! i would like it if you could see the translation aswell for the words if you click on them. Or do you?
First, thank you so much for the feedback! Yes, that would be great to have the translations. I tried to do that when i first wrote the script, but it's a little difficult since the translations are not in the vocab list that duolingo uses to fill the page. i'm currently quite busy, but whenever i have more time, probably in march or april 2019, i will try to find out where the original words page gets the translations from so i can include them :)
Here's a picture of what the words page that this script creates looks like since mimo983 wasn't able to take a screenshot
It's available for French, German, Spanish and i think Italian from English. If you use the browser version, there's a "Words" button next to the "Home" button and if you click it, it opens a list of words you've learned so far where you can see the strength of each word and some more information about it. Unfortunately i can't insert a screenshot here, but if you type "Duolingo Words" in Google Image Search you will find a lot of Pictures :)
ah thanks - so its not available for Ukrainian then. I went to the link at the top of this discussion and it made no sense to me. It led to computer code (I assume) not to a word list for Ukrainian words learnt. I went to the read me file but I don't know how to do any of those things listed. Sad but true lol
The reason is because the repository is broken, see my new comment: https://forum.duolingo.com/comment/28402215$comment_id=29662516
When you click that RAW button normally Tampermonkey (or Violentmonkey) browser addons will automatically go into a special extension JS auto-install preview pane.
It is not working anymore for me in Firefox V52.9.0esr for this project with version V1.5.
do you have tampermonkey installed? If yes, please have a look at what i replied to Thomas.Heiss' comment.
If you don't have it installed and don't know how to do it, feel free to send me a message on Twitter (@mimomimo983) and i will try to help you out :) I totally understand that it seems complicated / confusing if you don't have experience with it, that's completely fine :)
The script does work for Ukrainian and every other language, but the original Function by Duolingo is only available for a few, that's why i wrote the script. So once we have the installation figured out for you, you can use it for Ukrainian :)
