Puzzlement with some letter sounds such as थ?

  • 1418

I am puzzled why the letter is spelt tha in Hinglish yet apparently pronounced more like ka according to the audio. Is this a problem/mistake with the audio or is 'th' intended to pronounced like a 'k' in English? If so, what is the reason for that, because it seems a little odd, since it makes it a bit confusing to an English speaker?

The audio isn't always that great. It shouldn't be pronounced as kha.

Should it really sound like a breathy-'t'? In a similar way to gha? Sorry, that's the only way I could think to expkain it.

Not breathy but aspirated like kha.
ध would be breathy.

"aspirated T" is how T is pronounced when at the beginning of words in English (*except in Indian dialect of English). Tennis, tablecloth, tattoo...

If you happen to speak English, it should be no effort to make the sound. The real effort and trick to pronounce Hindi correctly comes in NOT putting air (aspiration) on त.
