Isn't "dia makan rotinya" correct? I usually use the -nya form for "the".

Yes, that is correct. You can add the -nya at the end, although it's more informal. Please report the error

I translated this simply as, ‘Dia makan roti’ as Indonesian doesn’t have the definite article (the). The translation give would translate back as, She eats that bread.
