"Receive" is to get something passively, whereas "get" can be either active or passive. I'm told by my Indonesian cultural informant that "menerima" and "mendapat" cover similar semantic spaces, respectively. You can riff on the sounds of each of these words and convince yourself that they sound like meanings they represent.

When pulling down the menu to look for suggestions of "receives" both menerima AND mendapat were shown. What is the difference?
