Literal translation, please.
Could someone please provide the literal translations of the following?

Давайте познакомимся (Let's get acquainted)
Thank you in advance.

Hi! These are the literal translations.
"Познакомиться" means "to meet" in the sense of "to make sbd's acquaintance," not in the sense of "run into sbd by chance" or "have an appointment/date." So "рад познакомиться" means "(I'm) happy to make your acquintance," but that sounds a lot more formal in English, so adjusting for formality, the translation becomes "nice to meet you." Hope this helps!
Thank you kindly. I'm afraid it didn't help and I'm not sure what I'm looking for. I might be lacking some background (vocabulary/ patterns/ etc).
And don't worry about what it sounds like in English, I'm not learning English but attempting to wrap my mind around Russian to make the switch (in the long run) to be able to think in Russian. Literal translations help with this much more than to make a sentence look pretty in English :)
Hi, Myrrael! Here,I will try to help you best I can..I am fluent in Russian and grew up there as a youngster.
My literal translation..very literal.
1st phrase. Рад познакомиться
Рад: (I am) happy /feeling happy/joyous/ (in a similar sense to the French "être hereux" ..)
познакомиться: to make myself familiar (with you) =French "faire la connaissance de qqn"-literally to get "knowing/recognising/" someone познакомиться is a reflexive verb in this meaning,..this part of the verb "- ся" is pointing at the speaker.. So he says..I am happy to make myself familiar with you/to get to know you..
2nd phrase. Давайте познакомимся
"Let us get familiar with each other, familiarise ourselves with each other or get to know each other"
Давайте is from the verb Дать (means literally to "give") but it does NOT have any separate meaning in this phrase.. here it is simply a part of the imperative,an expression of suggestion..It is identical here to the English "let us encounter each other"
Hope this helps..
You are most welcome!! Very happy that I was able to interpret this for you! Feel free to ask any other questions about Russian expressions!
На здоровье! Очень рада что помогла тебе лучше понять эти выражения.. Если есть другие вопросы-спрашивай! -))
Рад = happy по = verb prefix знаком = familiar дать = verb 'to give' Давайте = imperative 'give'
иться познакомиться = to make
Рад познакомиться ( Glad to meet you ) sometimes can sound very formal, but sometimes very friendly ( close to nice to meet you ). It depends on a situation.
