Simple Shortcuts for accent marks and 3rd tone for Mac users.
- Go to the Apple logo
- System Preferences
- Keyboard Icon
- Input source
- click the + to add more languages
There are probably other ways to do this but this is the way I know and it works well.
Ex. I am learning Spanish and Mandarin
I had added the languages 'Spanish - ISO', ' Pinyin - Simplified' which allows me to type in character, and 'ABC - Extended' which allows me to type the 3rd tone in pinyin. In order to type the third tone in pinyin you must be in 'ABC - Extended'. You hold down the key 'option' and press the letter 'V' and then type in the letter you wish to have in third tone.
To quickly switch between keyboards you hold down 'control' and then use the 'Spacebar' to select the keyboard. To go back and forth between the previous keyboard and the one you are currently using you do this action faster.
Don't worry, you will get the hang of it and trust me, when making flashcards it makes it so much easier.
