How would one understand the difference between "Sa fille l'aide" and "Sa fille laide"?

Their pronunciations are exactly the same, however one means "His daughter helps him" while the other means "His ugly daughter". I can't imagine the look french people would give if you just utter this single sentence ;)

You need context to tell them apart. The only other possibility might be intonation/ inflection when you say them. I can't imagine a situation when both would be appropriate by themselves (and thus there would be confusion). I hope that helps.
