Jeruk in Indonesian vs Jeruk in Malay

In Malay, the word "jeruk" translates to pickle. As you all likely know, in Indonesian this is not the case. Is someone able to explain to me the etymology of jeruk for each and how they came to be separated so drastically?

Interesting question; they both relate to fruit, so the difference isn't too drastic. I couldn't find any for jeruk, but for the Indonesian equivalent of jeruk i.e. oren:
