Accurate stereotypes:

  • Football/Soccer (Not all Brazilians like it, obviously, but, yes, it is a big deal here)

  • Samba & Carnaval (Same as football, not everyone enjoys, but it's a great symbol of Brazilian culture and cities from all over the country celebrate)

  • Warm and happy people (Brazilians like to hug and to show affection all the time, which could seem "weird" for some other cultures).

  • Really connected to the internet with a wide variety of original memes and own vocabulary - especially for laughter (i.e: "kkkkkkkk", "ahuhuahuahua", "soakpsoakpsoak", "rsrsrsrs")

  • Violence is something that concerns a lot of Brazilians (It's not like we live in a war and we cannot go out, but it's impossible to ignore that violence is a real issue and it scares most of us).

  • Corruption is something really common (I'd say really standard).

Wrong stereotypes:

  • Brazilians speak Spanish

  • The capital of Brazil is Rio or São Paulo (actually is Brasília)

  • Favelas are dangerous because only criminals and drug dealers live there (there are a lot of criminals and drug dealers, but most people that live there are honest)

  • Monkeys run around the cities (that's laughable. We only have monkeys inside zoos or forests).

I agree, monkeys are more rare than outsiders think, but it isn't strictly true that there are no monkeys within city limits outside of zoos. Here is an example from Rio.

Good list BTW.

huh, "soakpsaok" is new to me haha why does that mean laughing lol ive seen "kkkkkk" alot. Latinamerica makes alot of memes ive never seen a brazilian one? but i mean spanish and pr are different, i heard its easier for a brazilian to learn spanish than the other way around but who knows , romance languages are cool , were sooo different but at the same time were familly, were kinda like half brothers? except french , french is kinda like that distant cousin you see at family gatherings sometimes jeje

The majority of Americans do not think Mexicans are lazy. Us Americans are okay people, really!

I'm sure some do, but I'd be surprised if that was believed by a "majority". I think that's probably a false stereotype (about Americans), but will change my opinion if I see polling data showing otherwise.

Brazilians have a sweet tooth, or so stereotype would say. They like sweets, more cakes and pastries than candies.

Brazilians really like the tv show Everyone Hates Chris. I don't know why.

Another stereotype is that Brazilians are always walking around in skimpy swimsuits on the beach.

I have been living in São Paulo for ten months. Brazilian people are really nice, kind, mature, patient and educated. As far as I observed, they liked to buy small things while shopping. For example, if there are three size of some product they choose the smallest one all the time. It is funny because I always choose the biggest :D

That's cool haha i can relate , i mean its better to get the smallest since what if the product is terrible? and besides the biggest one is always the most expensive haha . How is your portuguese? , why are you living in brazil? and do you think your portuguese is better since you live there . i ask alot of questions haha im just curious

In some cases it is true but for some products buying the biggest is the cheapest when you calculate it, anyways :D My Portuguese is not so good right now. I try to improve it as soon as possible. Living here helps to improve it of course because Brazilians do not know other languages so, you need to speak and understand Porutuguese very well in order to live here. I came here to work as an interpreter. I know Turkish and English in advanced level. But i need to learn Portuguese, too. That is why I am here. Language is my job. I am a translator for businessmans.

There is another stereotype: Brazilians do speak other languages, specially english. Of course, does not hit the massive population, but It is already common hear brazilians speaking english (or trying to do it)!

Most people think that Brazilians speak Spanish and like soccer and samba, Could i tell that most people think that Brazil is only Rio and São Paulo and in other cities (specifically "Cities of the Amazonia") people living with jaguars? (but I think this type of stereotype is more of the Brazilians themselves, what is so funny) i hope i have helped.
